The volunteer-led local chapter of the B Corp movement, connecting the 200-plus Certified B Corporations across the Bay Area's five sub-regions.
Who it's actually for
People who work at a Certified B Corp, or at a company going through certification, and want to meet the others. That is the core, and if you are a sustainability or people lead at a certified company, this is the most direct peer group available to you locally.
It is run by an independent volunteer board with no paid staff, which shapes everything about it. Programming is periodic rather than constant, the tone is practitioner rather than professional, and the people organizing it have day jobs at the member companies.
It is a weaker fit if you are looking for a general impact network. The B Corp frame is the organizing principle here, so the room is business people, and the conversation assumes a company rather than a cause. If you are a nonprofit staffer or an individual organizer, Social Impact SF or Net Impact will fit better.
What they run
Events across the region, collective action projects, educational content, and community spotlights on member companies. Their work is organized around three stated pillars: racial equity, climate justice, and the stakeholder economy. Past programming has included a paid internship pipeline for emerging leaders of color.
Events tend to be small and often take place in member companies' own offices, which is part of the appeal. A recent gathering ran at Torani's headquarters in San Leandro.
The five sub-regions they organize across are the East Bay, the Peninsula, the North Bay, the South Bay and San Francisco, so events move rather than clustering in the city.
What it costs
Membership is priced by company size, and it is a company-level commitment rather than an individual one: $2,500 for 501 or more employees, $1,500 for 101 to 500, $750 for 21 to 100, $500 for 1 to 20, $100 for sole proprietors, and $50 for students with a valid ID. All tiers include member-only events and a newsletter feature, with the higher tiers adding board liaisons, C-suite networking calls, website and social promotion, and speaking opportunities.
Individual events are often open beyond the membership and separately ticketed.
The organization is funded by membership, donations and sponsorship.
Where
Across all five Bay Area sub-regions, with events hosted at member companies around the region rather than at a fixed venue.
How to start
Go to one of their public events before considering membership. They are small, they happen in real offices, and $50 or $100 gets a student or sole proprietor in the door for a year if you decide you want the rest.
