The Bay Area is full of people trying to build something better: climate leaders, social entrepreneurs, nonprofit teams, civic organizers, ethical businesses, community builders, volunteers, and people simply looking for a meaningful way to get involved. The challenge usually isn’t that nothing is happening. It’s knowing where to find it, who to meet, and where you belong.
FYP SF Bay exists to help you find your way in.
We’re an independent publication and community connector for the Bay Area’s social impact, sustainability, ethical business, civic, and purpose-driven communities. We find the events, organizations, people, businesses, and opportunities worth knowing about, then give you enough context to decide what is actually worth your time.
FYP stands for Find Your People, Place, Purpose, and Path. Those are our starting points, not the limits of what you might find here.
What you’ll find here
Every week, Where to Find Your People curates events from across the Bay Area. It is not just a list of dates and links. We try to tell you who an event is for, what to expect, and whether it might be the room you’ve been looking for.
Beyond the calendar, we tell the stories of the people and organizations doing meaningful work across the region. We highlight local businesses trying to operate responsibly, introduce communities you may not know exist, and create practical ways to move from reading about something to participating in it.
Our coverage loosely follows four paths:
- People — the organizers, founders, neighbors, leaders, and connectors doing the work
- Place — the businesses, neighborhoods, venues, and spaces where community happens
- Purpose — organizations, ideas, and efforts working toward positive social and environmental impact
- Path — ways to participate, whether that means attending your first gathering, volunteering, supporting a local business, changing careers, or finding your next community
A community of communities
There is no shortage of good organizations in the Bay Area. What is often missing is connection between them.
A climate community in Oakland, a social enterprise network in San Francisco, a mutual-aid group on the Peninsula, and a purpose-driven business in San Jose may have overlapping people and goals without ever crossing paths. FYP is not trying to replace those communities or build another membership organization alongside them. We want to help the communities already here become easier to find.
That means introducing newcomers to organizations they might otherwise miss, helping good events reach the people who would value them, and telling stories that allow one part of the Bay Area’s impact community to discover another. We think of FYP as connective tissue for a community of communities.
FYP SF Bay also serves as the regional home for Net Impact SF Bay, helping connect members and communities across the region.
Independent and human-curated
FYP is small and independent. There isn’t an algorithm deciding what deserves your attention. Someone actually looks at the event, organization, business, or story and asks a simple question: Could this help someone find their people, place, purpose, or path?
FYP is free to read, and the goal is to keep it that way.
