The Peninsula's standing series of co-work days and mixers, run by Zahava Stroud and Paul Breslow around the theme of valuable, efficient and sustainable economies.
Who it's actually for
People south of San Francisco who are tired of driving north to meet anyone. This is the most consistent recurring impact series on the Peninsula, and as far as we can tell it is close to the only one. The co-work day is on its fourteenth edition and the mixer on its thirty-first, which is a longer run than most Bay Area series manage.
The room is deliberately mixed: business, venture, startups, climate organizations, government at city, county, state and federal level, education, and tech. Topics rotate through climate, AI, health, food and agriculture, building technology, and manufacturing and reuse.
That breadth is the trade-off. If you want a room where everyone works on climate, this is not it, and the climate content varies event to event. If you want to meet people from outside your own sector who happen to be nearby, it is the best option on the Peninsula.
What they run
Two recurring formats in San Carlos. The co-work day runs 10:30am to 4pm, with check-in, short introductions at 11, and lunch downtown at 12:30. It is a working day rather than a talk. The mixer runs 5pm to 9pm, with networking from 5, introductions at 6:30 and an official close at 8:30. They are often scheduled on the same day, so you can roll from one into the other.
Beyond those, the calendar carries pitch competitions in Menlo Park, community town halls on Zoom, a vendor showcase at MBC BioLabs in San Carlos, a garden swap in San Jose, and Waves & Watts in Half Moon Bay.
What it costs
Name your own price. The co-work day suggests around $20 and the mixer recommends about $10 toward food and drink. Nobody is turned away over it.
Where
San Carlos is the anchor for the recurring events, with venue addresses sent on RSVP rather than published. Other events move around the Peninsula and South Bay, from Half Moon Bay to San Jose.
How to start
The mixer. It is walk-in friendly, introductions happen at 6:30 so you are not left to fend for yourself, and it costs whatever you decide it costs.
