Scoped, paid work from purpose-driven businesses and nonprofits (B Corps, worker-owned businesses, social enterprises), for students and early-career people in the Bay Area.
A project runs two to six weeks, has a fixed fee and a defined deliverable, and ends with a real line on a resume. Some come with a mentor from People & Purpose attached. On any project, you can request one.
The board opens this fall. Right now we're lining up the first projects.
For brands and organizations
You have a piece of work that needs doing and no one to do it: the impact report you keep meaning to write, a supplier map, three months of social content, a grant landscape, a wholesale one-sheet. An intern takes onboarding, supervision and an open-ended commitment. A project takes a brief.
Tell us what you need in a paragraph. We turn it into a brief with deliverables, a timeline and a suggested fee, and send it back for your approval. Once it's live, you pick from applicants with our shortlist, sign a one-page agreement, and pay the student directly on delivery. FYP never holds funds.
Most projects land between $300 and $1,500, roughly $25 to $35 an hour of student time.
For students and early-career people
Every project on the board comes from a business or nonprofit with a certification or ownership structure you can check: B Corp, worker-owned, nonprofit social enterprise, 1% for the Planet, and similar. You get paid, you get a deliverable you can show, and you get a contact who will take your call in six months.
Applications open when the first projects post. Leave your email and we'll send the first batch.
What a project looks like
Draft a first B Corp impact report
Turn existing supplier, survey and giving data into a report the business can share with customers.
Build a 90-day Instagram content calendar
Plan and draft three months of posts for a wine shop that handles its own photography.
Map corporate catering buyers
Find 40 to 60 companies in San Francisco and the Peninsula with local-sourcing commitments.
Move sign-ups to an automated form
Shift a nonprofit's workshop sign-ups from email to an Airtable form with reminders, and document it for staff.
FYP is home to People & Purpose, a Bay Area community of professionals working on social and environmental impact, and its members are the first mentors on these projects. We're describing a community we're part of, and we've tried to be as straight about it as we are about everyone else.
