SHARE Charlotte is a nonprofit that connects people with local nonprofits to give, volunteer, attend events and buy from wish lists. It launched in December 2012 with 87 nonprofit partners; Kelly Brooks is the founder and Melissa Hovey the executive director.
Who it's actually for
Newcomers, and anyone who cares about Charlotte but hasn't picked a cause. The site lists roughly 900 nonprofits, several hundred volunteer opportunities and a steady stream of in-person and virtual events, searchable by cause.
It also suits students, with a yearly teen and college volunteer guide, and companies planning employee giving or volunteering.
It is a weaker fit if you want a standing group of peers. SHARE introduces you to organizations; the community forms at the ones you choose. For a membership group that gives together, look at the Women's Impact Fund.
What they run
#GivingTuesdayCLT, Charlotte's local GivingTuesday, now in its 12th year, which SHARE says has inspired $52 million for local nonprofits over the past 11. Do Good Week, Charlotte's celebration of National Volunteer Week. Shop for Good, which ships items from nonprofit wish lists straight to the nonprofit.
#SpotlightOnCLT stories that feature a theme and its nonprofits each month, such as literacy in September 2026 and Charlotte's Latino communities during Hispanic Heritage Month. The Goodie Awards, honoring people who make Charlotte better.
Gatherings in past years have included #YPMixerCLT, a mixer that introduces young professionals to nonprofits (its 11th edition was September 2024), and the Charlotte Sustainability Summit, organized with Carben Events and last held in June 2025.
What it costs
Searching listings and applying to volunteer has no listed fee. Events hosted through the site are priced individually; the 2025 Sustainability Summit, for example, was $30, or $20 for students and nonprofit staff, with lunch included.
